HB Studio is offering a new integrated Sunday acting program for young people, ages 13 to 17, combining in-depth training in movement, speech, voice, and acting. The intensive will culminate with an afternoon of open sessions to share work in progress. Please plan to wear loose, comfortable clothing in which you can move freely, and bring your lunch!

Jim May: Movement for Actors
10:00am - 11:30am

The movement class will utilize breath/sound to discover alignment and subjective placement as a suitable foundation for the exploration of rhythm, style, dynamics, space, improvisation and repertory (from the work of Anna Sokolow) as vehicles for creative expression. As a teacher I am looking for originality, not duplicity; creativity, not similarity; and most important influence, not individuality. Learning does not consist only of knowing what we must or we can do, but also of knowing what we could do and perhaps should not do.

Adona Butler, Speaking Voice
11:30am - 1:00pm

Connecting speech and voice to the real you using Phonetic Pillows. Students work on sound symbol identification, physical games and exercises, text, and dialects. Based on the Colaianni method of speech and voice.

Trudy Steibl: Acting: Technique and Scenes
1:30pm - 3:30pm

Learning and practicing the craft of acting is a hilarious, taxing, joyful, difficult, challenging, exhilarating process of continuous self-discovery. We discover that we are so much more than we think we are. Using all that we know and all that we can imagine, we play what we dream of being. Students choose studies from plays, short stories, and novels, using their senses, imagination, and experience to bring unique life to the world of the character.
